The birth of company
The company was Established in 1958, formerly known as a state-owned enterprise- Xiangtan Electrochemical factory. In 1964, the older generation of technicians and workers independently developed the first ton of EMD in China, which filled the technology gap in China and replaced of imported EMD for dry battery, marked the onset of China's electrolytic manganese dioxide industry.

In 1974, the first in China to produce EMD by Titanium anode, greatly improved the EMD purity and production efficiency. Since then, the technology and product quality was far ahead of the domestic counterparts.

In 1985, successfully self-developed EMD for Alkaline Battery, which filled in the domestic technical gaps, promoted the development of China’s EMD industry.

In 1994 the name of the company was changed to Hunan Xiangtan Electrochemical Group Company. (In August 2003, changed to Xiangtan Electrochemical Group Co., Ltd.), further expand the scale of production.

1997
Significant breakthrough of Mercury-free Alkaline EMD, filled another domestic technology gap, set a international precedent for producing Mercury-free Alkaline EMD by using lean Carbonate Manganese ore as the main Raw material. On March 1st, 1998, through the Technical Achievement Appraisal , many of the technology innovations are in a leading position at home and abroad.

By the end of 2017, the first production line for Hg-Free Alkaline EMD battery was built, was officially put into operation in early 1998 with 6000 tons of capacity. Certified by ISO9002 quality system in 1997, which was the only EMD manufacturer in China that passed the certification. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, started to enter the international market, its export of 1999 accounted for 90% of the total export volume of the country.

In 2000, Xiangtan Electrochemical Group Company, as a host initiator, united other four superiority enterprises, established “Xiangtan Electrochemical Scientific Ltd.”, which mainly develop, produce and sell EMD and other the battery material, producing various EMD for different battery grade, including C-Zn grade, alkaline grade, primary Li-MnO2 grade, secondary Li-Mo grade and high-performance grade. On may 1, 2000, the project of 20, 000t EMD expansion for mercury-free alkaline manganese batteries officially broke ground, and put into operation on March 23, 2001.

In 2004, successfully achieve the expansion of production capacity with 8000 tons for mercury-free alkaline EMD battery, total annual capacity is 46000 tons, the biggest single EMD manufacturer in the world.

The "go global" strategy was implemented. As the controlling shareholder, XTES jointly established Jingxi Xiangtan Electrochemical Scientific Ltd., the capacity for Hg-free alkaline grade EMD reached 20,000 tons after several year’s development.

Xiangtan is listed on Shenzhen Stock Exchange.In June, the company invested 100 million yuan to take over the productive and operating assets of Xiangtan Manganese Mine by way of paid transfer, so as to realize the strong and powerful combination of capital and resources.

Set up a mining branch with an annual ore output of 160000 tons.

One of electrolytic metal manganese production lines started production, successfully produced 4 tons of qualified metal manganese.

Xiangtan Electrochemical Group Co., Ltd. Manganese Business Department Security Department Guards Brigade was established.

Successfully approved the application for non-public offering of stock by the CSRC
The second EMD production line with 10000 ton capacity put into production in Jingxi plant.
