On August 6, 2018, the first volleyball tournament organized by the trade union of Xiangtan Electrochemical Group Co., Ltd. officially kicked off at the outdoor court of the Wastewater Treatment Company. During the opening ceremony, Zhong Hong, chairman of the company’s trade union, delivered an enthusiastic speech, noting that the company places great importance on employees’ cultural and sports activities. By making good use of their spare time, the company organizes a wide variety of colorful cultural and recreational events, fostering a positive atmosphere of “happy work and healthy living.” He also encouraged every team member to uphold the principle of “friendship first, competition second,” compete fairly, and actively participate in the tournament, striving to demonstrate unity, friendship, high moral standards, and the distinctive spirit of electrochemical workers! Leaders from all participating units attached great importance to this event, carefully organized it, personally took part, and greatly boosted morale.
The opening ceremony began with a rousing athletes’ march. Fifteen participating teams, totaling 180 athletes and 10 referees, entered the court with vigorous strides and high spirits. The opening ceremony was presided over by Liu Ying, the union official. During the ceremony, athlete Chen Cheng, on behalf of all athletes, took the oath: “We will participate in this volleyball tournament with a positive, enthusiastic, and passionate attitude, upholding the Olympic spirit—remaining humble in victory and never losing heart in defeat. In the competition, we will obey leadership and follow instructions; abide by discipline and respect the rules; honor the referees and respect our opponents; work together in unity and courageously strive for excellence; put friendship first and competition second; and demonstrate both style and high-level performance.” Referee Liu Ying, speaking on behalf of all referees, pledged: “We will strictly obey the command of the referee panel, rigorously adhere to the competition rules and referee discipline, treat all competitors with respect, officiate courteously, remain serious and meticulous, and carry out all refereeing duties fairly and impartially.” Afterwards, each team withdrew from the court in an orderly manner, bringing the opening ceremony to a concise and successful conclusion. Immediately following the ceremony, the competition commenced.
In this volleyball tournament, more than 180 athletes from 15 teams are competing. Each team fields a lineup of three men and two women. The competition is divided into Groups A and B, where teams will play a round-robin format before advancing to the knockout stage. So far, 31 matches have been played in the group stage, and the semifinals and final are scheduled for August 21. During this tournament, the referee team has made thorough preparations and ensured orderly organization. Every referee has demonstrated a spirit of hard work and perseverance, fully dedicating themselves to the task—especially during the initial phase when they organized and coordinated training sessions for all teams at the city’s sports center gymnasium. All participating teams have actively engaged, obeying the referee team’s instructions, undergoing rigorous training, working together in unity, and striving to excel. On the court, the players have left us with countless thrilling moments. These heart-pounding scenes have not only ignited the enthusiasm of the vast number of employees but have also greatly boosted their motivation to participate in sports activities.
Through this volleyball event, the team’s cohesion and unity have been strengthened, the spirit of positive and uplifting sports has been promoted, the spirited demeanor of the electrochemical workers has been showcased, and the outstanding performance of these workers has been demonstrated.
